Mount Elden Middle School (MEMS) was named to the 2026 Arizona Schools to Watch list, a national designation in more than 20 states that recognizes exemplary middle schools demonstrating academic excellence, developmental responsiveness, social equity and strong organizational structures.
Principal Tammy Nelson leads the middle school and has worked intensively with everyone on campus, from teachers to families, toward continuous improvement and excellence. When Nelson took on the principal position at MEMS seven years ago, the school received a letter grade of D with five areas identified for targeted support. As of the 2025-26 school year, MEMS holds a letter grade of B.
